In June Low Carbon Hub got the news that they had won the UK Ashden Award for Sustainable Communities, joint winners with Repowering London. The award ceremony on the 9th June included winners from the UK, Africa, Indonesia, Mauritania, Asia and Central America — a truly global party!
Here’s what the judges said: “Low Carbon Hub has an extremely compelling vision for the rivers and rooftops of Oxfordshire to be the power stations of the future, delivering economic, social and environmental benefits for residents.”
The hub’s projects are all financed through community share offers and it reinvests 100 per cent of its share of the surplus revenue in work to reduce carbon emissions in Oxfordshire.
Chief executive Barbara Hammond said: “We’re extremely proud of the confidence Ashden has shown in our vision for a more local and more renewable energy system for Oxfordshire, especially now as the community energy sector looks for new ways to thrive in the post Feed-in Tariffs era.”
