Westmill Sustainable Energy Trust
(WeSET) is the charity set up by members of Westmill Solar Cooperative and Westmill Wind Cooperative to promote the deployment of sustainable energy, energy efficiency and education about climate change and renewable energy. WeSET carry out a wide range of activities, the core being educational work, supporting local energy conservation and renewable energy initiatives and arts projects. WeSET encourages and facilitates visits to the Westmill site and every other year organises a large event to connect the community with the site.
Westmill Wind Farm Cooperative
Westmill Wind Farm Cooperative shares the site with Westmill Solar. Westmill Co-op was established in 2004 to build and operate a community-owned wind farm at Westmill Farm. Westmill Co-op was the first wind farm co-operative in the South of England which gave local people, as a matter of priority, and others, an opportunity to invest in the production of renewable energy.
Community Energy England (CEE)
Westmill Solar is a founder member of Community Energy England (CEE) which was established in May 2014. CEE is a not for profit organisation set up to provide a voice for the community energy sector and help create the conditions within which community energy can flourish. Westmill Solar’s Philip Wolfe is also a director of CEE.
Low Carbon Hub
Low Carbon Hub Oxford is a pioneering social enterprise, working for a massive change in the UK’s energy system. The hub supports the development of a local, low-carbon energy system, so that the benefits of renewable energy generation strengthen local communities. It develops community-owned renewable energy in Oxfordshire and re-invests 100% of surpluses in its mission to create an energy system we can all feel good about.
The Climate Coalition
The Climate Coalition (TCC) is the UK’s largest group of people dedicated to action on climate change and limiting its impact on the world’s poorest communities. The supporter base of its 100+ member organisations is more than 15 million people across the UK. The Coalition has come together to show our love for all the things we could lose to the impacts of climate change; and to ask politicians to put aside their differences, and commit publicly to do whatever is necessary to protect us and the things we love. Westmill Solar is the first cooperative member of TCC.
Ethex
Ethex is a small not for profit organisation based in Oxford with the aim of creating a marketplace for positive investments. Ethex aims to make Positive Investing easy, so people can invest directly into leading social businesses with the lowest charges possible. Ethex provides management services for Westmill Solar.
Co-op Energy
Co-op Energy is the only member-owned energy supplier in the market and has approximately 300,000 domestic customers. Co-op Energy purchases the electricity that Westmill Solar exports to the grid.
Co-Ops UK
Co-ops UK is a network for Britain’s co-operative businesses. Co-operatives UK works to promote, develop and unite member-owned business worth more than £34 billion to the British economy.
